The Seattle Times

Well, we have had another busy week up here in WA. Alex finished his UW externship; he had lots of fun and learned tons about oral surgery and fixing broken jaws. I think he is slowly getting immersed into the Seattlite culture:)

We went to a Mariners' game Tuesday night against the Red Sox. It was crazy; it felt like a playoff game. There were a lot of Boston fans and both teams were neck in neck the entire game. But, the M's pulled it out and won 8-7, yippee!!
Yesterday, Alex, Laura, Lisa (Laura's friend) and me went to the Pike Place Market and the U. District. We found the infamous chewed gum wall and had a delicious lunch at Specialty's. I am now going to have to find the SF locations of that cafe. Oh, and we had crumpets at the Market for breakfast. I highly recommend The Crumpet Shop to anyone visiting Pike Place. Also, check out Piroshky Piroshky and of course you gotta buy a bouquet of flowers:)
Alex is still working on my parents' bathroom so that is his latest project and I am the Home Depot/Lowe's/Ace's gopher.
Also, if anyone knows how to put pictures on here in between type, I would appreciate knowing how. I can only seem to get it to have the pictures at the top of my posts and all the type below, kinda annoying....thanks!

Father's Day weekend fun!

I know this is a few days late, we had a busy Father's Day weekend. First, we went to the Pacific Science Center in Seattle. Alex loved it (no surprise)-we went in the tropical butterfly exhibit (my favorite), dinosaur fossils, then the usual spots. Alex got lucky to have the butterfly on him! Later we all went up to Mt. Rainier; it was super cold and rainy, but we got a nice nap on the way up....It really must be paradise when the weather is decent. Thankfully, the past few days have been perfect so we've been able to see Rainier in all her glory:) Happy Father's Day, we love you, Dad!

Birthday treats

My birthday was Tuesday; it was the first one in who knows how long that I've celebrated in WA with the fam. My mom took me to lunch at Panera Bread here in Federal Way and we did some shopping-I actually found some cute things, it was great to spend time together!
After everyone got home from work, school, etc., we went to dinner at the Black Bear Diner. It was kinda on a whim since the other place we wanted to go, Jimmy Macs, wasn't open yet (even though it was supposed to open on the 11th...). The food at Black Bear was delicious (huge portions!), but it took FOREVER for our food to come. SO, they gave us free desserts! Here is a picture of those with a cake my mom made.
It was a fun day, I still can't believe I am 10 years out of high school..crazy.

Crazy Day in San Francisco

These photos may not look all that crazy, but let me just say that this past Saturday was full of "true" San Francisco experiences. While Alex and his dad were downtown, I babysat and we went downtown, too, to the Academy of Sciences. That was neat, then we went and got lunch at Bristol Farms on Market Street. After, we headed over to Yerba Buena, and while waiting at the crosswalk, I witnessed about 30-40 naked bicyclists (but with helmets) riding on through, cheering. It was quite shocking, and thankfully, the little boy I was with was distracted by a panhandler so I didn't have to try and explain....
Later, when I was meeting up with Alex and his dad, we came across this fantastic car out by Macy's decorated so beautifully (see pic above). Then we went to North Beach for dinner, and in front of the restaurant was a guy vomiting in the street next to the cops' car while all watched. After dinner, we enjoyed all the smiling faces in their swerving cars on Lombard Street. Now I know why SF is known as being so diverse:)
Oh, and I love flowers and was so excited when the parents I was nannying for gave me these gorgeous tulips. They own a flower business and had extra; what a nice surprise!

Weekend with Alex's dad

Alex's dad is here until tomorrow morning for a dental conference and is staying with us. We have had a lot of fun with him and enjoyed being able to spend some time together. Last night we went to the Fog City Diner on the Embarcadero...it was so delicious; then we got homemade ice cream at the Wharf, which was also divine! Tonight we went to an Italian restaurant in North Beach then walked up Lombard and all the way home. Also, Alex got to learn more about conscious sedation dentistry and I got to go to the seminar on adversting, which I actually learned some cool things. It has been great to have him here and to create new memories!
We love visitors, thank you for coming!!!!

Greenies no more!!!!

First year is officially over, yippeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Alex finished his last final today at 9:30am or so. He gets 4 weeks off, two of which will be at UW doing an oral surgery externship. I guess he just can't get enough of being near teeth. And tomororow he's going to a dental conference out here with his dad....it ever stops.
He is doing great and I am very happy for him to move on to 2nd year and seeing real people instead of just Mary (his lovely mannequin).

I want more gerberas

This is Mollie Stones supermarket. It's our closest grocery store, and although quite expensive, I shop there for the sales and flowers. The employees are very nice and try to keep a nice neighborhood feel, even with all the Pacific Heights yuppies there. And they have a great salad bar and tortilla chips.
Anyway, a few weeks ago, I found the prettiest gerbera daisies there and I was able to mix the 2 colors up and they were gorgeous (this pic is the best I could do)! We even got them to last 1 1/2 weeks, which for us is probably a record. This past Saturday morning, we went there to get some more, and they were not very pretty; quite wilted and sad looking:( So we stopped by a small farmers market and got some cheap stargazer lilies instead that don't even come close....
